Traditional Neapolitan Nativity (still) at White House

For people who haven't seen it before, here's a photo of the beautiful 18th Century Neapolitan Nativity scene, donated by Mrs. Charles W. Engelhard, Jr. of Far Hills, New Jersey in 1967. Charles Englehard was a wealthy and influential international businessman.

The New York Times recently reported that the WH social secretary, Desiree Rogers, had said that the Obamas did not want to put up the creche this year because they felt it wasn't "inclusive."  Apparently, the negative reaction of her listeners convinced them to change their mind, and it will be in its usual place in the East Wing.

As you can see from this detail, it's a classic!
